But as an adult and working, it seems that everything is fast-paced because we are trying to hustle to get to the next goal.  Instead of always wanting to check off the next thing, how about taking a break?

Lunch break: Step away from your work. This is your time to refresh your mind. Do not eat lunch while you still do work.  You aren’t giving yourself the chance to exhale and prevent yourself from becoming a workaholic.

Nature break — Step outside to reduce stress.  Nature has a way of bringing you back to center, slowing down, and reflecting on what’s truly important.

Micro break — Each time you complete a to-do list for work you should pause and take a moment for yourself.

Digital Detox break-Stop scrolling through social media.  Spend time on the things you want to accomplish.

Creative break—Take part in activities that bring out a spark in you.

Practical Tips for Incorporating Breaks into Your Day

Throughout your day you should schedule breaks to regroup.  Here are some tips you can do to make sure you do.

Schedule break time: Mark on your calendar the times you plan to take a break.  During your break you should make yourself a cup of tea or coffee.  You could even meditate.  Anything that allows you to remain less stressed.

Set alarms: If you work during the duration of your day you probably won’t have the same comfort of doing the same things as if you were at home.  Put on an alarm on your phone to take breaks throughout your work day.  Consider taking a quick stroll out of your office.

Fewer distractions — Avoid doing work while you are on your break.  Allow yourself to fully disconnect from doing any type of task.

Overcoming Guilt and Embracing Rest

Stop feeling guilty for taking out time for yourself.  Give yourself self-compassion. Be kind to yourself.  You have already worked hard, so why not give yourself grace.  Listen to what your body needs and follow through. 

If you ever feel overwhelmed, pause and shift gears.  The last thing you want to happen is you disregard the signs and keep going.  Thus, it may lead to future health risks.  Your health is essential.

Longer Breaks: Planning for Vacations and Getaways

Instead of just taking breaks briefly at work, plan and book your vacation.  If you are at work, see when you have built up your paid time off.  Book a vacation.  It’s time you started using your vacation days.  Make the most of each day.

All you can do is make the most of it now.   Relax and recharge on your extended break.

But before you can do that, see what type of vacation you want to take.  Do you want a warm or cool vacation? Do you want a beach or slopes?
