How Five Simple Habits Quietly Changed My Life
The smallest changes can have the biggest impact on your life. Sometimes, it’s just incorporating everyday habits. There are five things that I’ve done that have allowed me to appreciate myself more.
These didn’t require a major lifestyle change. It just made me realize the importance of taking care of my health and nourishing my well-being.
Sunscreen: Protecting My Skin and My Future Self
I used to be the type of person to only put on sunscreen if I went to the pool or beach. Now I incorporate it into my everyday routine.
I realize that as you get older, you must adjust how you take care of yourself.
Wearing sunscreen has helped me become more confident in my skin. I notice that my hyperpigmentation has cleared on my face. I went to the dermatologist, and they examined my face and said it was hyperpigmentation.
Also, I am not the type of person to wear makeup. The last time I ever wore makeup was for prom and graduation in high school.
I always felt confident in my skin until I had hyperpigmentation. When I realized I had discoloration that was noticeable, I felt timid and shy.
I barely wanted to go out.
Now that the hyperpigmentation has gone away, I feel like I am taking care of myself each day by putting on sunscreen.
Reading Expiration Dates: A Tiny Habit That Saved Me From Regret
I check the expiration on every product I use. The reason I do that is because I had two people at different times offer me something that had expired a few days ago.
I knew at that point I had to make sure I kept track of when things expired. Additionally, I started to check the expiration date for water, vitamins, probiotics, etc.
I never really paid attention to that stuff as a kid, but now I do.
I am more mindful of the things I buy. This awareness makes me feel more in control of my health.
Walking: The Most Underrated Form of Therapy
Walking has allowed me to reset, especially when I am overwhelmed at work. Doing this simple form of exercise has helped me:
· Move a lot more
· Boost my mood
· Motivated me to work out
· Improve my energy
· Clear my mind
Walking has allowed me to pause and reflect on life. It’s powerful being present.
Drinking More Water: Including electrolytes
As I got older, I noticed that I have to switch up how I am taking care of my body.
I know water is essential, but adding electrolytes into my body has helped:
· Blood pressure regulation
· Improve my exercise performance
· Enhanced my hydration
Furthermore, it has helped me keep consistent in drinking water daily. I noticed how much clearer my skin has become and how much my energy and focus have improved.
Interacting With People: Reconnecting With the World Around Me
Ever since Covid happened, I haven’t been able to interact with people like I used to.
I think having conversations with people makes me feel:
· Less isolated
· Boost my confidence when speaking with others
· Listen to other people’s perspectives.
Simple conversations lead to the discovery of what you want in life.
