How to Mentally Switch from Work Mode to Vacation Mode
When you work hard for so long it takes a bit of an adjustment to switch to relaxed mode when you take a vacation. Although, it can take a few days to get relaxed you can use these tips feel relaxed a lot sooner.
Why It’s Hard to Switch Off
You may feel as though work provides for you. That if you aren’t working you won’t get paid.
However, use your paid time off. A job will easily replace you.
You constantly are trying to figure out what’s the next thing you have to do. Stop that. Take things day by day.
You feel that you have to be productive all the time. Giving yourself a chance to rest is essential.
How to Transition Smoothly
1. Plan Ahead at Work
Know your limits. Set aside time for you. The last thing you want to do is to get through entire year and not use your paid time off. Some companies only allow you to roll over so many hours.
2. Set an Out-of-Office Message
Automatically set you emails to “out of the office.” You don’t need to read work emails while you are on vacation.
3. Create a “Shutdown Ritual”
Clean up your workspace. Anything that has to be done can get completed when you come back.
4. Limit Notifications
Turn it off. Stop letting work control when you can relax.
Final Thoughts
Enjoy your life. Realize that there is life outside of work. Don’t look up one day and realize you should of took more time for yourself.
